The Experience Prescott Office of Tourism is proud to announce that Sean Underhill has recently been named the Leave No Trace 2024 State Advocate of the Year by the Leave No Trace national organization. This award honors individuals, agencies, businesses, and organizations who are dedicated to pursuing and educating others on the Leave No Trace mission. Since 2023 Sean has been a State Advocate, taking the initiative to be included in numerous events and service projects around Prescott.
“This award is very well deserved,” said Joe Baynes, City of Prescott Recreation Services Director. “He shows a strong interest in community wide education on the importance of preserving nature.”
His enthusiasm came to fruition when he formed a Leave No Trace – focused Junior Ranger program, as well as helping with Prescott’s monthly Nature Niños community outreach events. Sean also initiated a new trail building project with the Boys and Girls Club of Central Arizona.
Sean has generated a mutual love and respect for this project, sharing the message at over 20 events this year.
Sean is a Community Navigation Program Coordinator for Yavapai County Community Health Services. In addition to his role with Yavapai Community Health Services, Sean is a volunteer City Park Ranger to manage Prescott’s Junior Ranger program for the City of Prescott Recreation Services Department.
“I got hired on with the Yavapai County Community Health Services and became the Arizona State Advocate for Leave No Trace. Both positions allow me to continue to reach out to our community to build equitable access to nature and stewardship. Increasing our physical and mental health, while bettering our environment.”
