Transfer stations temporarily house all of the trash from quad city area in preparation for hauling the materials to the Gray Wolf Landfill that is owned and operated by Waste Management.
All recyclables are hauled down to Phoenix to be sorted by the adjoined Materials Recovery Facility (MRF). The MRF contains a series of machines and conveyors that sort glass, paper, metal, cardboard and plastic into separate bales.

What to pay attention to BEFORE you bring in your items.
The Prescott City Code requires that any load coming into the Transfer Station be secured -contained and covered.
Large items should be properly secured to ensure they will not come out of the vehicle. Tarps are perfect for keeping most debris, such as landscape trimmings, dirt, rock, and concrete, from spilling out on to the roads in and around the City.
Large and heavy items should be firmly secured with solid straps, rope, bungee cords, or netting. These items should be tied down directly to the vehicle and be able to withstand winds of 70 mph on the freeway. At 70 mph, that wind is providing about a 20-lbs-per-square-foot push on those loads, which can dislodge items and push them right off the vehicle.
For loose, lighter items such as couch cushions, appliances and patio chairs, drivers should use a sturdy plastic, canvas tarp, or netting to keep items in place.
Keep materials level with the truck bed or trailer unless tied down, netted or covered with a tarp.
“Don’t Trash Arizona” is a campaign that Arizona implemented to bring awareness to the dangers of material coming off of vehicles when they are not properly secured. The law requires a load to be secured. “A person shall not drive or move a vehicle on a highway unless the vehicle is constructed or loaded in a manner to prevent any of its load from dropping, sifting, leaking or otherwise escaping from the vehicle.” (A.R.S. 28-1098.A).
Items that are NOT accepted at the Transfer Station include:
Stop by and pick up wood chips for your garden/yard
The Solid Waste Division produces quality wood chips to use as mulch.
Wood chips are available, at no cost, to the public:
Monday through Friday – NO WEEKENDS
9am to 2pm
Please allow up to a 30-minute wait period for a staff member to load the material upon request.
Please remember to cover and contain your load for your drive home!
The Solid Waste Division grinds natural wood and organic debris through a 2” screen resulting in clean mulch-like product. No treated wood is processed.
One of the best benefits of any mulch is its ability to retain moisture in the soil. Organic mulches break down over time and contribute to soil health. This can be very helpful, especially if your soil fertility is poor. Mulch helps with weed control. Other benefits include protection from erosion and from mechanical injury from weed eaters and lawnmowers.
Make sure we're open before you stop by on a holiday.
