Wastewater Treatment

Sundog Wastewater Treatment Plant

The Sundog Wastewater Treatment Plant (SWWTP), owned and operated by the City of Prescott, is located at 1500 Sundog Ranch Road in Prescott, Arizona. The facility was initially constructed in the early 1930’s as a wastewater septic system, undergoing many upgrades before becoming an extended aeration oxidation facility. The facility is permitted to treat up to 6.0 million gallons/day (MGD) of domestic sanitary sewage and hauled wastewater from commercial haulers. Class B+ effluent is produced and utilized for golf course irrigation, construction use and recharging the aquifer at the Airport WRF.

The Sundog WWTP as it exists today was constructed in 1979 as an extended aeration oxidation ditch facility. The process expanded in 1989 adding final clarifiers, sand filters and anaerobic digesters. In 2013, nitrification/denitrification improvements were made to the activated sludge process with the addition of submersible mixers, mixed liquor recycle pumps, additional aeration diffusers, dissolved oxygen probes and SCADA upgrades.

Airport Water Reclamation Facility

The Airport Water Reclamation Facility (AWRF), owned and operated by the City of Prescott is located at 2800 Melville Road in Prescott, Arizona. The facility was initially constructed in 1979 as a 0.75 MGD Wastewater Treatment Plant. The facility went through a major expansion in 2014 to add capacity for increasing wastewater flows. The facility is permitted to treat up to 4.75 million gallons/day (MGD) of domestic and industrial wastewater. Class A+ effluent is produced and utilized for golf course irrigation and for recharging the aquifer through one or more of the eight percolation basins located on-site.
