One April 18, the City of Prescott will participate in the “Two Lights”, which calls for two lights to be displayed in every statehouse, municipal and county buildings, schools, offices churches and even individual homes. The lights are meant to honor and bring to mind Paul Revere’s famous ride on April 18, 1775, to warn of the approach of British troops prior to the battles of Lexington and Concord. The event is also an opportunity to raise awareness for the upcoming “America 250 Celebration”, which will mark the 250th Anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.
“We are pleased to participate in the Two Lights event,” said Prescott Mayor Phil Goode. This event marks the anniversary of the famous ride by Paul Revere, who was actually joined by William Dawes, and Dr. Samuel Prescott, to warn the militia of the British regulars advancing to seize the arms stockpiled in Concord. This is one of many anniversaries marking key battles in the American Revolution, and milestones in the struggle for independence.”
On April 18, the City will display the two lights in the windows at the new City Hall located at 201 N. Montezuma Street.
