The Civil Division of the City Attorney’s Office provides legal advice and counsel to the City Council, City Manager, and all City departments, committees and commissions.
The Civil Division prepares and reviews all documents, contracts, resolutions, ordinances and policies of the city; reviews all claims and defends the City in all lawsuits filed against the City; represents and monitors litigation cases; files suit on behalf of the City to obtain monies due to the City (such as unpaid taxes, unpaid assessments); and files suits to enforce various City Code provisions (such as zoning violations, sign code violations, property maintenance ordinance, etc.).
The City Attorney’s Office cannot provide legal advice to the public.

The City Attorney’s Office routinely updates the City Code based on updates in State or Federal law or according to City Council policies. Proposed amendments to the City Code can be found here, along with recently adopted amendments
