Permit Fees

Understanding Permit Fees

Fees for construction activities vary depending on the type of project. These fees may include the following: Water infrastructure fees, Wastewater infrastructure fees, Water resources impact fees, and Non-development impact fees. Additionally, there may be charges for various administrative services, such as plan review, permit issuance, inspections, and other administrative tasks.

Ordinance No. 2019-1662 adopting and amending Development Impact Fees (Impact Fees) for the City of Prescott, went into effect on August 1, 2019. Six Impact Fees were adopted including one for Fire, Police, Streets, Water Resources, Water Systems and Wastewater Systems.

Non-Utility Development Impact Fees

The amount of each non-utility impact fee (Fire, Police, Streets) is based on both the type of use and the square footage of the building. For residential use buildings, including apartments and single-family homes (site built, modular, manufactured, and mobile), the livable square feet is the square footage of a residential unit under roof that is used for living, sleeping, eating, and cooking. For non-residential use buildings, including industrial buildings, offices and other services, retail and restaurants, and hotels or motels, the fee is based on the total square footage of the structure.

Utility Development Impact Fees

Water infrastructure, wastewater infrastructure and water resources fees are based on both the size of the meter and the service area in which the parcel is located.

Most (but not all) single-family residential properties will use a 5/8” water meter. The size of the water meter is primarily based on the number of fixture units within the structure. In the event that a one-inch meter is required solely as a result of being equipped with an automatic fire sprinkler system, the Impact Fees to be assessed shall be 5/8″ meter size.

These fees are currently being evaluated for a potential increase.
