Election Cycle

Prescott’s legislative body consists of one Mayor and six City council Members who are elected at large. The Mayor serves a two-year term and Council Members serve overlapping four-year terms. The city will begin the next regular election cycle process on Monday, January 6th for the Tuesday August 5, 2025 Primary Election.

To be eligible to vote in a City of Prescott Election:

Primary Election Ballot Measures

At the March 25, 2025 Voting Meeting, Council adopted Resolutions placing two ballot measures on the Primary Election Ballot. Resolution No. 2025-1915 placed Prop482 for the “Home Rule” alternative expenditure limitation on the ballot, and Resolution No. 2025-1914 placed Prop484 for an “Open Space Charter Amendment” on the ballot. In addition to the two ballot measures, the August 5th Primary Election will serve to elect candidates for the Mayor & Three Council Seats.

General Election Ballot Measures

At the June 24, 2025 Voting Meeting, Council adopted Resolution No. 2025-1917 placing Proposition 485 “Utility Franchise Election” on the General Election Ballot. Following the adoption of this Resolution, the City Clerk’s Office has opened the Argument Filing period. Arguments must be filed by 5 pm on August 8th. Information regarding the format for arguments is available in the attached release. Citizens are encouraged to file and pay for arguments through the following link:  Argument Form, however, arguments may also be filed via email in Word format to city.clerk@prescott-az.gov

Candidate Resources

Citizens who are interested in learning more about serving on the City Council and running for office in the 2025 Primary Election must schedule a Candidate Meeting with the City Clerk. Meetings will be taken beginning Monday, January 6, 2025 in order to obtain a Candidate Handbook and submit a Candidate Statement of Interest before circulating Nomination Petitions. The Nomination Filing Period for the 2025 Primary Election will begin March 10, 2025 and closes April 7, 2025. Additionally, the City Clerk’s Office has announced that the City of Prescott will be utilizing the Secretary of State’s Office online petition portal (E-Qual) beginning with the 2025 election cycle allowing candidates to obtain up to the minimum number of required petition signatures digitally. Details and instructions for candidates related to this system are included below with all candidate resources.

Candidate Qualifications

The Mayor and Council Members shall be qualified electors of the city three (3) years prior to the primary Election. A qualified elector of the city is defined as a person whose name appears on the Yavapai County voter registration roles in a precinct of the City of Prescott for preceding elections or who has subsequently registered in a Prescott precinct and is otherwise qualified.
